2015 is proving to be quite a magical year, as our very own Christian & Katalina explain.
Just last month, the two played hosts and emcees at the 5th annual Indianapolis Winter Magic Festival. This year’s festival was special, in that all of the performers were award-winning magicians. In fact, Katalina shared with us, two of the visitors were Gold Medal and Gold Cup Champions, and four will be competing this summer in Rimini, Italy at the International Federation of Magician Societies’ World Championship of Magic.
That competition, held every three years, is dubbed the Olympics of Magic, with magicians from around the world competing for awards in stage and close-up magic. All of us here at the mind-tripping show are thrilled, because Christian and Katalina will also be representing North America in the World Competition in Italy this summer!
“The highlight for us as hosts here at the Indianapolis festival,” Christian explained, “was hanging out with our fellow performers and telling stories about our experiences and adventures. It was thrilling to see six professionals each offer a forty-five minute show with totally different takes on magic and illusion – each using a different presentation, each in a unique style.
Magic performances fall into categories: Comedy, Manipulation, Illusions, or Mentalism, as well as how close the performers are to the audience. Stage illusions use large-scale props, while parlor magic is performed for a medium sized audience. Close-up magic is performed with the audience close to the magician or illusionist.
At this year’s Winter Festival, each of the guest performers demonstrated a different technique and style. Juggling played a role in Trigg Watson’s performances, while Eric DeCamps used beautiful classic magic. Hannibal is a master Storyteller and Oscar Munoz won the crowd over with his comedy magic.
Our corporate entertainment has its own very unique style, that’s for sure! Christian and Katalina not only interact with their audiences, their audience members become part of the show! Their show focuses on psychological concepts including perception, lying, predictions, and mind reading. Often the two function as “mentalists”, demonstrating their uncanny, almost “spooky”, intuitive abilities.
But whatever a performer’s style, they’ve learned the one thing that appeals to all groups: laughter. The benefits of laughter during a Mind Tripping show customized to fit the needs of each company are positive and long lasting!
